●Game Addiction Similar to Autism
（ゲーム中毒は、自閉症に似ている）

イギリス心理学学会は、つぎのような研究結果を
公表している（２００８年４月３日）。

つまりビデオゲームに中毒的な兆候を見せる人は、高機能自閉症の症状に似た振る舞いを見せる、と。

Research presented at the British Psychological Society's Annual Conference this week suggests that people who show signs of being addicted to videogames exhibit many of the same symptoms as those with Asperger's syndrome, a form of high-functioning autism.

The University of Bolton's Dr. John Charlton and Ian Danforth of Whitman College questioned 391 gamers, focusing on the relationships (if any) between addiction, "high engagement" and personality. "Our research supports the idea that people who are heavily involved in game playing may be nearer to autistic spectrum disorders than people who have no interest in gaming," said Charlton.

ボルトン大学の研究者らによると、「過度にゲームに熱中する人は、そうでない人よりも、自閉症スペクトラムに、より近いということがわかった」という。

The more intense the gaming addiction, the more likely the subject was to display three character traits commonly associated with Asperger's: neuroticism, a lack of agreeableness, and a lack of extroversion. In other words, people who do nothing but play videogames tend to be obsessive, shy, and unpleasant. Well, duh.

たとえば（過度にゲームに熱中する人は）、アスペルガーに似た３つの症状を示す。（１）神経症、（２）同調性の欠如（a lack of agreeableness）、（３）外向性の欠如（内向性）（a lack of extroversion）。

Those afflicted with Asperger's often have trouble relating to other people, finding themselves unable to pick up on subtle social cues or understand humor. Charlton and Danforth believe that gaming addicts have similar difficulties, and find it easier to relate to games than to real people.

アスペルガーでは、他者との関わりにおいて、しばしばトラブルを起こす。たとえば微妙な問題や、ユーモアが理解できない、など。
研究者らは、ゲーム中毒の人も、同じような問題をもっていると信じている。

Charlton and Danforth aren't suggesting that gaming addiction is also a form of autism, merely that those who can't put down the controller are "nearer to the non-empathising, systemising, end of the spectrum," along with "engineers, mathematicians and computer scientists." Well, at least they're in fairly brainy company.

ゲーム中毒が自閉症を引き起こすということではない。ただゲーム中毒の人は、技師、数学者、コンピュータ科学者と並んで、他人に対して、共鳴性が欠落（the non-empathising, systemising）しやすいということ。

ゲーム中毒が、自閉症を引き起こすということではない。
（近年、自閉症の原因は先天的なもので、後天的な環境によるものではないという説が、定説化している。）
しかしゲームに夢中になりすぎると、自閉症スペクトラムに似た症状が現われるということらしい。
「スペクトラム（濃淡の幅）」というのは、自閉症といっても、幅が広く、症状も千差万別であることをいう。

隣の韓国では、ゲームも含めて、ネット中毒が、社会問題化している。
学校ごとにカウンセラーも配置し、子どもの指導にあたっている。
が、この日本では、いまだに野放し。
