My son is coming to Napa, the Jal training center from this March. He is now at Haneda, receiving final schooling before that. He has been trainen for the last three years but another half a year he needs. It is a very long way to be a pilot.

昨日、Ｊ社に入社した、息子からＦＡＸが届いた。
１月からは、羽田で、座学を受けているという。
「座学」というのは、いわゆるスクーリングをいう。
それが終わると、３月から、アメリカのＮで、大型機の
操縦訓練を受けることになっている。

パイロットの世界では、無数の資格試験に合格しなければ
ならない。その上、飛行機の機種ごとの免許証も必要。
すでに３年間も訓練を受けている。が、それが、さらにあと
１年半もつづく。

ワイフが、「アメリカのＮって、どこ？」と聞いた。
私も知らない。

ヤフーで検索してみると、サンフランシスコ湾のすぐ北
ということがわかった。

緑に囲まれた静かな町らしい。ワインの産地としても
知られているらしい。イチローのホームベースのすぐ近く
といったほうが、わかりやすいかもしれない。

ところで、その息子が、今度、Ｊ社で、「社長表彰」なるものを
受けることになった。直接、社長から表彰されるという。
新入社員で社長表彰を受けるのは、Ｊ社、はじまって
以来のことだという。

またまた何かを、しでかしたらしい。

Ｊ社の社長も、たまたま浜松のＫ高校出身。息子と同じ
高校である。「夢みたいだ」と、息子は喜んでいた。

……いろいろつらいことはあるが、そんなわけで、昨夜
は、ワイフと２人で、息子の話に酔いしれた。

オーストラリアで息子の世話をしてくれたＢ君に、さっそく、
礼の手紙を書く。

毎週、息子を飛行場まで連れていってくれた。何でもはじめて
グライダーに乗った日には、「もう飛行機はやめた！」と、
息子が叫んでいたという。よほど目を回したらしい。

その日は、運悪く、天候の悪い日だったらしい。

I again thank you very much for your having done for my son, Eiichi. He joined JAL, a leading Japanese air-way company and he shifted from Narita to Haneda and he is being received the last schooling before he leaves for Pana, Cal, USA this coming March. By the way here is a good news. He is given the “Prize of Boss” directly from the boss and he will meet with the boss of the company soon. He was happy over the phone last night. He has been always the top through the hard trainings over three years in the past. You know why? Because you helped him while he was with you, for which Akiko and I thank you very much. When he rode a glider for the first time in your place, he had a very bad air-sick and he said, “I shall not be a piliot anymore.” Now he is finding his own way for happiness. I am sure he will be NO1 pilot in the near future.Here in Japan it is cold and it is blowing hard. In Tokyo and other places they had snow-falling, but not here in Hamamatsu. Last week I had a speech in Fuji-city where I could see beautiful Mt. Fuji. It is a pity that you were not there.
